Basketball Development League (BDL): A New Chapter for Grassroots Basketball
This August, Olympia Sportz & Events will launch the inaugural Basketball Development League (BDL) – Mumbai Edition, marking a significant step forward in the development of grassroots basketball in Maharashtra.
Taking place from 22nd to 30th August 2026 at VIBGYOR High, Goregaon (West), Mumbai, the league has been created with a clear purpose—to bridge the gap between school basketball and elite competition by providing young athletes with a structured, professionally managed platform to compete, develop, and be recognised.
The Basketball Development League is not simply another competition. It is a long-term initiative designed to nurture talent and strengthen the basketball ecosystem from the ground up.
Through competitive league fixtures, professional event management, and increased visibility, BDL aims to give aspiring players the opportunity to showcase their skills before coaches, selectors, academies, and the wider basketball community.
The league will feature franchise teams representing different regions of Maharashtra, encouraging local pride while creating an environment that promotes healthy competition, teamwork, and player development.
Adding further significance to the league, Indian Basketball Team Captain Pranav Prince joins BDL as the League Ambassador, inspiring the next generation of athletes through his leadership and achievements on the court.
Joining him is celebrated Bollywood actress Abhisree, who will serve as the Face of the League, helping bring greater visibility to grassroots basketball and encouraging more young people to embrace the sport.
The Basketball Development League is proudly affiliated with the North Mumbai District Basketball Association (NMDBA) and the Maharashtra State Basketball Association (MSBA), reflecting its commitment to delivering a professionally recognised competition.
